I learned while working with pro-life and pro-choice activists that while no one changed their views on abortion, they did successfuly work together on issues tangential to abortion (teen pregnancy, adoption, and the quality of the discussion).
Part of the challenge was encouraging participants not to shy away from the common ground they had discovered.
