I think it's a great idea, Michael - and really nicely articulated here. I especially like how this might help puncture the larger narrative of "we're so divided that we just can't agree on ANYTHING anymore."

Also, it makes a lot of sense that creating texts as you suggest could stimulate and inspire broader engagement in the conversation. I've always liked how Public Agenda creates nice written guides for the issues around which they're doing work.

My only suggestion would be that we not limit this kind of a forward march to the select issues about which we can imagine some agreement and resolution - but also consider thoughtful texts exploring those issues about which diverse parties WON'T likely agree upon - and where we don't necessarily foresee a clear resolution. Perhaps if these were co-written by disagreeing parties (rather than emerging from one side alone) - they could get some public traction.
